Comberton Crusaders was
founded in 1988 by local soccer enthusiasts interested in bringing
the game to children in Comberton village. Each year the club has
grown, drawing more and more youngsters from the surrounding villages
as they see what the club can offer. The club is affiliated to Cambridgeshire
FA and is registered as a Community Charter Standard Football Club.
The Charter Standard is granted to clubs that meet certain specified
high standards of training and child welfare
The club has Comberton Recreation Ground as the main ‘home’
ground but because of the expansion of the club additional ‘home’
pitches are now at Eversden, Orwell, Meridian School, Bourn &
Haslingfield.
During the longer evenings in spring we use Comberton Recreation Ground
but as the light draws in we move to the superb ‘Astroturf’
facility at Comberton Village College. Here all our teams have all
weather training slots on either Wednesday or Thursday during the
soccer season. Where team mangers and qualified coaches can teach
soccer skills under floodlights in all weathers conditions.
The club has 5 girls team playing in the S-Tech Girls League from
Under 10 to Under 15. In the boys teams the club has 5 boys Mini-League
teams ranging from Under 8 to Under 11. The Colts League is represented
by 6 boys teams from Under 12 to Under 17. All players and teams are
registered with Cambridgeshire Football Association
All teams have dedicated managers and assistants. The team manager
is your first port of call to discuss team matters. All managers have,
or are aiming to attain an FA Level 1 Coaching qualification. All
staff involved with young players are encouraged to attend development
courses to improve their coaching skills and all staff have background
CRB checks and emergency first aid training.
Matches for all the girls teams in the S-Tech League and the boys
Mini-Soccer League are played on Saturday mornings, while boys Colts
games are played Sunday morning. The number of players in each team
increases, while pitch and goal size increase as the age of the players
increase, until a full 11-a-side is reach at Colts level. Game times
increase in length as well until full size soccer pitches and goals
are reached in the Under 17 category.
The club provides the correct coloured kit for each team and is included
in your fees. The club strip, comprising shirt, shorts and socks remain
the property of the club and players are asked not to wear them outside
club activities. Boots, pads and gloves must be provided by each player.
The club has a written Constitution and the players are asked to abide
by the Code of Conduct. Matters of player discipline are handled by
the clubs Disciplinary and Complaints procedure and may be referred
to the appropriate League governing body. The club has a complete
set of policies to cover matters relating to soccer. The club promotes
the ‘Respect’ campaign organised by the FA and you will
be asked to abide by these national rules on behaviour.
A trained ‘First Aider’ is in attendance at all matches
and all players are asked to inform the club of any medical pre-condition
which might require specialist intervention. All club coaches have
